We’ve been focusing a lot on the many new features that are making their way to Android 10, but there are millions of devices that have yet to receive an update to Android 9 Pie yet. Back in April of this year, it was reported that the LG V30, LG V35, and LG V40 would all be receiving the update to Android Pie within the next three months. We don’t have an official rollout announcement just yet, but an early beta build recently leaked for the LG V30.
This may sound like a repeat headline but it was actually the European LG G6 (H870) which had its Android Pie beta update leaked just a couple of days ago. Whoever has been in charge of testing these updates definitely isn’t afraid to share them with the world. It’s common for unfinished builds of major Android updates to leak early. But it is interesting to see that both beta builds have been leaked so closely together. It was earlier this week in our own LG V30 forum when XDA Member created the source thread for the leaked build.
The Android Pie beta build for the smartphone is available as an OTA update (and is not the full firmware). This means that you have to set up your environment by doing things such as installing LGUP_Common_DLL_Ver_1_0_28_5.msi so that LG UP doesn’t fail with the “Error 0x2000, Fail!. MTP is not running” message. This beta build is working for LG GV30 devices of the following models: H933, H930DS, H930G, H930D, H930, V300L, V300S, and V300K.
There are some other things that need to be done ahead of time (depending on which device you have). This includes V300L, V300S, and V300K variants being updated from V21s to V30b. So you’ll want to be sure to read through the entire source thread before proceeding. There is a text guide available here and a video tutorial embedded below that can help walk you through the process on your LG V30
