One of the few manufacturers trying to keep the tablet market alive, aside from Samsung and their Galaxy Tab line, is Xiaomi. Xiaomi’s recently launched Mi Pad 4 isn’t flagship quality, but if all you want is simply a decent multimedia tablet then the Mi Pad 4 does the job does fine. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 features a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC with 4 GB of RAM, an 8.0-inch 1200×1920 display, and a big 6,000 mAh battery. There’s also a Mi Pad 4 Plus model with a 10.1-inch display and 8,620 mAh battery. The Mi Pad 4, like nearly every other Xiaomi device out there with the exceptions of the Mi A1/A2 Android One devices, runs Xiaomi’s MIUI. If you were looking forward to the MIUI 10 update for your tablet, it’s finally rolling out to the stable branch according to one Redditor.
The MIUI 10 update includes all the expected improvements that brought Xiaomi’s newest customization interface, such as the revamped UI and UX, the redesigned recents menu and volume sliders, the renewed notifications, and more. Keep in mind that this update, while it’s full-fledged MIUI 10, is still based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Other devices, such as the Mi Mix 3 and the Mi Mix 2S, already have Android 9 Pie-based MIUI 10 builds, so if you’re looking forward to running Android Pie officially on your device, you’ll still have to wait a bit until an Android Pie-based MIUI 10 build arrives for your device. Unfortunately, AOSP-based custom ROMs (outside of Project Treble GSIs) aren’t an option yet as the kernel source code for the Mi Pad 4 is still not available.
If you want to download this build now without waiting for the update to roll out, you can do so by downloading the below file and then sideloading it via MIUI Updater in system settings. Take note that this build is the MIUI 10 China Stable ROM and doesn’t come with Google services. Since the Mi Pad 4 is only available in China, though, it’s not like there’s a MIUI Global ROM out there anyway!
