Razer is a company that is in a unique situation in the Android ecosystem. Smartphones are not a large part of their business. Even though they acquired a smartphone company back in 2017, the company has only produced two smartphones, both in the niche “gaming phone” category. Software support has been a bit of an adventure for these devices so it’s always exciting when we see an update. The Razer Phone 2 is getting an update right now.
With Razer’s smartphone business future still a bit uncertain, we’re always happy to see its devices receive updates. According to users on Reddit, the Razer Phone 2 is now being updated with the September 2019 security patches. The Razer Phone 2 started receiving Android Pie over the Summer but hasn’t seen many updates since.
Besides the monthly security patches, Razer has included a number of additional enhancements. Camera stability and Wi-Fi stability have both been improved. Family Link is now supported. The latest Google Mobile Services apps have been added. Lastly, the usual bug fixes and performance improvements are on board. The download comes in at 548.3MB and you can click here to download the OTA zip for your phone.
