Ever since its debut last year in May, Realme has gained tremendous popularity by launching affordable Android devices with some impressive specifications. The devices are also fairly popular in the Android development community and the company has been quite supportive. It has allowed users to easily unlock the bootloader of its phones and has also released kernel source codes for most all of its devices going back to the Realme 1. In keeping with the trend, Realme has now released kernel source codes for the recently launched Realme XT, Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro.
These timely kernel source releases allow developers and power users to dive deeper into the code that runs their device, allowing them to figure out different ways to improve their device’s overall performance and capabilities. Kernel source releases are also helpful for custom ROM development, which in turn benefits users who aren’t satisfied with the stock ROM on their phone. With the release of the kernel sources for the Realme XT, Realme 5, and Realme 5 Pro, we expect to see a major boost in third-party development for these devices.
Both the Realme 5 and the Realme 5 Pro are budget devices from the company that feature respectable specifications for the price. The low-end Realme 5 packs in a Snapdragon 665 chip, coupled with up to 4GB of RAM and a quad-camera setup. Whereas the Realme 5 Pro features a Snapdragon 712 chip with up to 8GB of RAM and the same quad-camera setup, but with a 48MP primary sensor. The Realme XT, on the other hand, is a mid-range device from the company which also features a Snapdragon 712 chip and up to 8GB of RAM. However, it’s the first smartphone from the company to feature a 64MP primary camera. All three devices run Realme’s ColorOS based on Android Pie. Since the devices are expected to receive the Android 10 update next year, the kernel source release spells good news for those of you who would like to try Android 10 before the official release.
