To learn how to obtain Black Holes, you first need to understand how they form in real life. For as long as a star remains in space, it is undergoing a process known as nuclear fusion. Hydrogen [H] atoms smash together, making their nuclei merge into helium [He], a process which releases so much radiation that it actively pushes against its own gravity and keeps itself stable. However, for stars more massive than our own Sun, these new helium [He] atoms keep fusing under the immense heat and pressure of the star, forming heavier and heavier elements until the chain reaction reaches iron [Fe]. Iron [Fe] cannot fuse, which means there is suddenly a great imbalance between radiation and gravity, and the star collapses at a quarter of the speed of light into a black hole.
If you place a Black Hole down, you will notice a few things. Firstly, it makes a whirring noise. This is to alert you that this menacing space-time bender is nearby! Secondly, it is completely black in appearance, lacking any depth cues. This is because no light is being reflected off it and is all being entirely absorbed. In fact, if you wander too close, you won’t be able to see a thing!
Under their immense gravitational forces, Black Holes pull every entity towards their centre (a 0-dimensional point known as the singularity, where all of their mass is concentrated) and kill them. This is not the case for boss mobs. Your inventory will also be cleared at a slightly larger radius than the event horizon, so why not get creative and make “Inventory Clearers” in Survival Mode?
It’s all very well and good being able to place these things, but how do you break them? Well, you could break them with your fist, but you only have one block of space before it grabs your items, so your best option is to push it with a piston and pick the item up. They can also be destroyed by boss mobs, but they won’t drop as items.
I hope this addon appeals to you. This took several days of work as I am very much a beginner addon maker and plan to expand my knowledge with new challenges as time goes on. Enjoy it and stay safe from those strong tidal forces!
