Samsung’s focus on its Gear family seems to be gradually lying low. The company will no longer push updates for the Gear 360 app – the companion app for its 360-degree camera that debuted in 2017. The app lets you connect to the Gear 360 camera from phone, take pictures and videos in a remote setting, or even post captured content directly to social media.

SamMobile reports that Samsung has confirmed the discontinuation of updates for the app. That being said, the company will still provide support for the app, essentially meaning that you can still use it. However, after August 1, the Gear 360 app will lose compatibility support with the new Galaxy smartphones.

Nonetheless, Samsung won’t stop updates for the app’s desktop counterparts, namely the Gear 360 ActionDirector and Gear 360 apps for Windows and macOS until February 28, 2024. If that’s any consolation, you should be able to experience many of the mobile app’s features on those platforms.

Last year, Samsung’s Gear VR headset was also stuck in limbo when the company confirmed that the headset won’t be compatible with the Galaxy Note10 series. The last time it received an update was in February 2017 when it received a new controller, and no improvement has been released for the headset since then.
