Verizon and Comcast extend COVID-19 pledges to cancel late payment fees and cutoffs

Just about two months ago on March 13, telecommunications giants Verizon and Comcast declared that they would be suspending late payment charges and disconnection due to non-payment of due fees in the wake of the global coronavirus pandemic. Now, both American companies have announced that they will be extending these commitments until June 30, 2020.

As per the voluntary pledge, Verizon will continue to waive late payment charges and will not disrupt the connection for its ”postpaid wireless, residential, and small business customers” who are unable to pay their bills until the newly stipulated date in June.

Similarly, Comcast will also be extending its promise to ”keep customers connected” by cancelling service disruption and late charges for Xfinity Internet, Xfinity Mobile, or Xfinity Voice services. Dave Watson, CEO of Comcast Cable, commented on the decision to extend its COVID-19 response measures:

“Our services have never been more important, and we’re doing everything we can to keep people connected to the internet.”

It is worth noting that both companies require their customers to contact and inform them in the event that they are unable to make payments on time or at all due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
